Aegon proposed a final dividend* for 2023 of EUR 0.16 per common share at the second half 2023 results. 

The dividend proposals were approved by the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders on June 12, 2024. Aegon’s shares were quoted ex-dividend on the New York Stock Exchange and on Euronext Amsterdam on June 14, 2024. The record date for the dividend was June 17, 2024, and the dividend was payable as of July 8, 2024.

As previously announced, Aegon has moved to a cash-only dividend. Aegon’s shares were quoted ex-dividend on August 29, 2023. The record date for the dividend was August 30, 2023, and the dividend was payable as of September 27, 2023.

EUR 0.12 per common share

Aegon proposed a 2022 final dividend* per share of EUR 0.12 at the fourth quarter 2022 results on February 09, 2023. Aegon also proposed moving to a cash-only dividend as of the final dividend of 2022.

The dividend proposals were approved by the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders on May 25, 2023. Aegon’s shares were quoted ex-dividend on the New York Stock Exchange on May 26, 2023 and on Euronext Amsterdam on May 29, 2023. Aegon announced an 2022 interim dividend per share of EUR 0.11 at the second quarter 2022 results on August 11, 2022. The interim dividend was payable in cash or in stock at the election of the shareholder. The value of the dividend to be paid in shares was approximately equal to the dividend to be paid in cash.

Aegon's shares were quoted ex-dividend on August 23, 2022. The record date was August 24, 2022. The election period for shareholders ran from August 25 up to and including September 14, 2022.

Aegon proposed a 2020 final dividend per share of EUR 0.06 at the 2H 2020 results on February 11, 2021. This will be paid out in cash or stock at the election of the shareholder. The value of the stock dividend was approximately equal to the cash dividend.

At the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders on June 3, 2021, the final dividend for 2020 of EUR 0.06 per common share was approved. Aegon's total dividend over 2020 amounted to EUR 0.12 per common share. Aegon intends to neutralize the dilutive effect of the final 2020 stock dividend, barring unforeseen circumstances.

Statement Regarding the 2019 Final Dividend

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) and DNB, Aegon's principal regulator, published statements on April 2, 2020 urging insurers to temporarily postpone all dividend distributions. Aegon N.V. confirmed on April 3, 2020, in a press release issued to convene the 2020 AGM that it would comply with these requests. As a result, the company will forego its 2019 final dividend of EUR 0.16 per common share. Aegon N.V. re-confirmed on August 13, 2020, in a press release issued about the results of the first half of 2020, that it will not pay a 2019 final dividend. Taking into account the interim dividend paid in September 2019, this results in a total dividend for the financial year 2019 of EUR 0.15 per common share.

Final 2014 Dividend

Shareholders were given the opportunity to choose between receiving the final dividend of EUR 0.12 per common share in cash (minus 15% withholding tax) or in stock. 42% of shareholders elected to receive the stock dividend.

2014 final dividend stock fraction

Those who elected a stock dividend received one Aegon common share for every 55 common shares held. The stock fraction was based on Aegon's average share price as quoted on Euronext Amsterdam, using the high and low of each of the five trading days from June 8 up to and including June 12, 2015.

The average share price calculated on this basis amounted to EUR 6.62. The stock dividend and the cash dividend were approximately equal in value.

Share buyback program
