Supporting people through inclusion and empowerment
At Aegon, our purpose of helping people live their best lives begins with creating an environment where people feel respected, supported, and empowered to contribute. We believe that inclusion and empowerment go hand in hand: when people feel they belong, they’re better able to reach their potential.
Inside our workplace
Across our global businesses, we aim to foster a professional culture that welcomes different perspectives and supports people in their growth. Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) are an important part of this where they provide spaces where colleagues can connect, share experiences, and help shape a more inclusive work environment. We currently have 27 ERGs across the company, covering themes such as race and ethnicity, disability, generations, wellbeing, LGBTQIA+ inclusion, and women’s advancement.
We also listen to our people. Our 2024 Global Employee Survey showed an engagement score of 79%, above our target. The survey includes feedback on inclusion and belonging, giving us important insights to guide our actions and track our progress.
A more informed and inclusive approach
We use data and feedback to better understand how employees experience Aegon, and how we can improve. Our participation in external benchmarks, such as Workplace Pride, helps us compare our policies and identify areas for development. Input from ERGs like Aegon Proud also helps shape the steps we take to support inclusion.
Our Talent Marketplace is one example of how we’re aiming to make development more inclusive. It helps open up mentoring and on-the-job learning opportunities, so that people across the business can grow their skills and careers.
Beyond our walls
Our focus on people extends beyond the workplace. We look at how inclusion and empowerment can play a role in our customer experience and community investments. By using benchmarks and gathering feedback, we aim to improve how we serve different needs and contribute to efforts that support financial and social empowerment in our communities.
There’s more to do, but we’re committed to taking thoughtful, practical steps to create an environment where people feel included and empowered to thrive.
