Our approach to sustainability
At Aegon, we see sustainability as an important part of how we help people live their best lives today and in the future.

We understand that environmental and social challenges don’t just affect the world around us; they also impact our business. At the same time, the choices we make as an organization can influence society and the environment. That’s why we take a thoughtful and responsible approach to managing our impact, while also identifying where we can contribute positively.
Our approach is shaped by the expectations of our stakeholders, and supported by global sustainability commitments including the UN Global Compact, the UN Principles for Sustainable Insurance, the Net-Zero Asset Owner Alliance, and the Principles for Responsible Investment.
We focus on two key areas: Environment and People. These priorities help guide our work across the business, from how we invest and operate, to how we support inclusion and empower communities.
Clear governance and strong oversight
Sustainability at Aegon is supported by a clear governance structure. Our Global Sustainability Board (GSB) plays a central role in advising our Executive Committee, helping to steer and embed sustainability across the organization. The GSB is supported by local sustainability boards and specialized working groups that help translate our global ambitions into local actions.
Day-to-day coordination is led by Aegon’s Corporate Sustainability department. Oversight ultimately rests with our Board of Directors, which sets the company’s overall strategy, including our sustainability agenda.
Tracking progress and improving over time
We measure progress through our sustainability reporting program, which is a collaboration between our sustainability and finance teams. This program helps us meet regulatory requirements, supports external ratings, and tracks our performance on key topics.
Our Integrated Annual Report provides a full view of our financial and non-financial performance, and outlines how we aim to create long-term value for our stakeholders and for society.
