Aegon's Art Collection aims to inspire us and explore new ideas. Small wonder therefore that one of our pieces features in an exhibition that explores the role of corporate collections given the rise of the home office.

Our artistic representative in this endeavor is Wraakveulen (II), which could be translated as Revenge Foal (II). Dutch artist Gijs Assmann created the sculpture using iron, leather saddle, jute, textile, buttons and Aegon acquired it in 2013. About a decade later, our four-legged champion is the mascot for a very timely exhibition at the CODA Museum in the central Dutch city of Apeldoorn.

But what should happen to corporate art collections that have been built up to liven up traditional office spaces? Art historian and curator Jelmer Wijnstroom seeks to explore this question at the CODA Museum. In the context of this exhibition, "offsite" also refers to the art that has left its usual office space to be shown at a completely new location.
Wijnstroom takes pieces from various corporate collections – including our Wraakveulen (II) – to create a 'third workplace' in the CODA museum for flex-workers and art lovers, CODA says. Visitors come and work daily in a unique setting surrounded by masterpieces from Dutch corporate collections.

The third workplace

The exhibition, Corporate Offsite Dwelling A, refers to taking meetings out of the office and into an inspiring setting to stimulate creativity and enhance team building. VBCN OPEN curator award

Wijnstroom won the fourth edition of the VBCN OPEN curator award with his exhibition proposal. The VBCN is an independent non-profit association for sharing expertise among Dutch companies and public or semi-public institutions that have their own art collections. The VBCN OPEN is a triennial prize for curators to provide a platform to contemporary curators. The winner receives a cash prize to turn the exhibition proposal into reality.
