Manager, Underwriting Risk Management
Responsibilities
- Provide disclosure audit information and deliverables to management and relevant internal/external parties.
- Review and manage the contestable claim process and provide consultation to the claims department.
- Trend the review mortality and morbidity experience.
- Serve as point of contact to the Medical Information Bureau and manage the annual MIB Self Audit.
- Manage and mentor direct reports.
- Monitor department processes and recommend/apply enhancements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in a business-related field or equivalent professional experience
- Ten years of relevant underwriting experience with a direct company or reinsurer
- Advanced knowledge of medical and financial underwriting
- Advanced knowledge of life insurance and health products
- Completion of industry related training or educational courses (LOMA, ALU, etc.)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal/relationship-building skills
- The ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities while managing others
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of company underwriting guidelines
- Understanding of insurance products available to company distribution units
- Proficient in AWD underwriting applications within the company portfolio
- Experience auditing life and health products, and/or contestable/life claim reviews
- Management/supervisory experience
- Strong computer skills working with spreadsheets, data management, internet and software technology
Working Conditions
- Remote from home
The Salary for this position generally ranges between $112,000-$149,000 annually. Please note that the salary range is a good faith estimate for this position and actual starting pay is determined by several factors including qualifications, experience, geography, work location designation (in-office, hybrid, remote) and operational needs. Salary may vary above and below the stated amounts, as permitted by applicable law.
Additionally, this position is typically eligible for a 15% Annual Bonus based on the Company Bonus Plan/Individual Performance and is at the Company’s discretion.
