Responsible for ensuring that the supervised team meets all production, service and quality goals in place for the Voluntary Group Life and Supplemental Health Employee Benefits business. The role is accountable for staffing, training and supervising the activities of team members, including supporting developmental progression from entry level to more senior roles.

This includes:

  • Analyzing complex product and pricing levers/requirements for new opportunities, including non-employer groups and blocks of business.
  • Ensuring effective risk and rate selection for all size cases and particularly national accounts groups (10,000+ eligible lives), to include reviewing and granting pricing or plan design exceptions. 
  • Maintaining strong partnerships with both Product Actuarial and Distribution Leadership to enable the sale of profitable business. This position requires frequent interaction with Distribution, Operations and Actuarial.

Responsibilities

  • In conjunction with Management:  interview, hire, train, develop and performance manage all personnel within assigned team. 
  • Manage all day-to-day activities of the team.  Assign production and non-production work in a manner that ensures balanced workloads, appropriate for associates’ level and experience.  Use monitoring systems and metrics to maximize productivity and quality. 
  • Role model behaviors to support desired culture through effective communication, establishment of expectations and leading by example.
  • Continue to price cases, execute on renewals and perform book of business analysis as required to effectively manage workloads in accordance with SLA’s.
  • Identify opportunities for improvements to process and tools both within the department and cross functionally and lead or oversee efforts within purview to implement enhancements/improvements.
  • Assist Management in maintaining Pricing Guidelines, Tools and Documentation and Decision Criteria for Exceptions.
  • Make decisions on challenging cases and effectively explain those decisions to appropriate parties.
  • Educate internal and external customers on the importance of risk and controls.
  • Participate in various company projects as Underwriting/Case Pricing representative.
  • Explain relevant pricing policy and decisions to all impacted parties.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business field or equivalent experience
  • Six years of group product experience
  • Thorough understanding of pricing models and assumptions, including risk and expense components
  • Strong math and statistical skills to handle varying types of pricing calculations and methodologies.
  • Strong risk assessment and financial analytical skills
  • Organizational skills to multi-take and prioritize work.
  • Project management skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritize work.
  • Excellent written and oral written communication skills to interact with internal and external audiences at all levels.
  • Decision making and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet high productivity demands. 
  • Proficiency using MS Excel, SQL, data management, and reporting tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience.
  • 3 years of experience with Group Universal Life, Whole Life, Term Life, Accident, Critical Illness, Hospital Indemnity, Cancer, and/or Disability and Medical Gap Products.
  • Familiarity with group pricing and proposal tools to support testing as needed

Compensation

The salary for this position generally ranges between $95,000 - $125,000 annually. Please note that the salary range is a good faith estimate for this position and actual starting pay is determined by several factors including qualifications, experience, geography, work location designation (in-office, hybrid, remote) and operational needs. Salary may vary above and below the stated amounts, as permitted by applicable law.

Additionally, this position is typically eligible for an Annual Bonus of 15% based on the Company Bonus Plan/Individual Performance and is at the Company’s discretion.
