Lead Software Engineer
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with internal staff, contractors, offshore software engineers, and business product owners within an agile development environment.
- Analyze and research existing business processes, workflows, and systems to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Gather, document, and translate business needs into clear, actionable functional specifications.
- Support system upgrades, integrations, and deployment activities.
- Perform architecture and design work for key deliverables; lead large‑scale design sessions focused on system‑level solutions.
- Serve as a subject matter expert across multiple applications, technologies, and domains; mentor team members on design and coding standards.
- Recommend technical solutions that balance cost, business needs, and system impacts.
- Lead cross‑platform analysis and architectural design efforts to develop comprehensive end‑to‑end solutions.
- Participate in organizational committees or projects to define standards, processes, and best practices.
- Leverage third‑party software development frameworks to accelerate application development.
- Lead web development staff, including contract and offshore developers; may provide direct supervision to employees.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and rapidly learn new tools and platforms to support the environment and project delivery.
- Prepare and deliver presentations; facilitate development meetings and technical discussions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, math, engineering, or other technical field, or equivalent education/experience
- Proficiency with requirements gathering, documentation, and modeling (e.g., UML, BPMN, process mapping)
- Three years of experience in design techniques and philosophies.
- Five years of experience with backend web development tools such as Java or .NET to effectively translate business needs into technical requirements
- Familiarity with modern frontend development frameworks (Angular, React, Vue.js, ASP.NET MVC, HTTP, HTML, JS, CSS, Ajax)
- One year of experience and working knowledge of cloud services (AWS/Azure) and related support tools (e.g. EC2, ECS, S3, Kinesis, SQL Data warehouse, PostgreSQL, Event Hubs)
- Three years of experience working with service framework input/output processes (e.g. API Gateways, Apache Camel, Swagger API, Zookeeper, Kafka, messaging tools, microservices)
- Comprehension of Microservices and REST based API development (e.g. Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Entity Framework, IIS, Swagger, Odata, .NET API 2, .NET API Core, AutoMapper)
- Understanding of continuous integration and continuous development (CI/CD) tools
- Advanced understanding of software development and research tools
- Attention to detail and results oriented, with a strong customer focus

Preferred Qualifications
- Understanding of advanced analytics and machine learning concepts and technology implementations

- Knowledge of the financial services industry with a focus on Life Insurance agent facing technologies (e.g. electronic applications, illustrations and customer relationship management systems)
Working Conditions

Compensation
The Salary for this position generally ranges between $111,000 - $135,000 annually. Please note that the salary range is a good faith estimate for this position and actual starting pay is determined by several factors including qualifications, experience, geography, work location designation (in-office, hybrid, remote) and operational needs. Salary may vary above and below the stated amounts, as permitted by applicable law.
Additionally, this position is typically eligible for an Annual Bonus based on the Company Bonus Plan/Individual Performance and is at the Company’s discretion.

This is a hybrid position requiring three days in office per week in one of our hub locations (Philadelphia, PA; Cedar Rapids, IA; Denver, CO). Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.
