Quant & Data Science Intern - Alternative Fixed Income
The job in a nutshell
The Alternative Fixed Income team focuses on investing in less traditional and illiquid assets within the Fixed Income universe, with the aim of achieving higher returns than are available in traditional Fixed Income markets. The team focuses on two key areas: ABS / Structured Finance and Private Debt / Direct Lending. The team manages a range of investment strategies across the rating spectrum, from AAA down to single-B. Examples include European/ US /Global ABS, residential mortgages, global Impact loans with Government guarantees, European/US private placements., Direct SME/Midcap lending, global Trade Finance and global Insured Credit.
The 40+ investment team is based in Amsterdam and London, and manages about €84bln of assets via funds and segregated accounts, predominantly for external clients, such as pension funds, insurance companies, private banks and family offices around the world.
We are looking to extend the global team by a Quant & Data Science Intern who will be focusing on the quantitative aspects of the broad spectrum of the Alternative Fixed Income team. You will be closely working with the developers within the Quant team and the Portfolio Managers of the different sub-asset classes. You will learn about the tooling and models that we develop for the different investment strategies. Together with the team members, you will contribute to expanding the tools with additional features.
Some of the tools that we have developed as a team and what we are working on:
- Data retrieval using smart web scraping techniques based on AI to enhance credit and ESG analysis of illiquid private companies/investments.
- AI capabilities for portfolio management focused on unstructured data.
- Cash-flow analysis for structured finance (ABS, RMBS, CLOs).
- Valuation and pricing models for private debt.
- Various portfolio monitoring systems and universe scanners to understand our holdings in great depth and quickly find opportunities in the market.
You will be closely working with the other Quants and PMs to understand their needs and come up with innovative ideas and solutions that drive the team forward.

This would be your future internship because you:
- Master student in Econometrics, Mathematics, Quantitative Finance, Data Science, or equivalent.
- Strong programming skills required in any language, but preferably in Python.
- Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
- Knowledge about AI and applications in investments.
- Passion for finance and investments.
- Proactive attitude and eagerness to improve yourself.
- Good sense of humor.
- Willing to learn on the job from more senior team members around you.
- Available 3-6 months per January/February (other start dates can be discussed).
- Part time or full time can be discussed.

Nils Breeman, Noor Diepman, and Qingzhi Hu are one of your colleagues. You will be closely working with them to further develop comprehensive systems for the broad Alternative Fixed Income team.
You will be located in Amsterdam Schiphol WTC.

The Internship allowance is 650 EUR per month

Personal guidance
It is required to be enrolled at a university to take part in this internship.
Next to that you will need a Dutch BSN-number and Dutch bank account.
If you are a non-EU/EER student, you will need a valid residence permit stating that you may work ('arbeid vrij toegestaan').
