The department Internal Control at Financial Reporting & Operations (IC FR&O) is part of Corporate Financial Center (CFC). The primary objective of CFC is to provide Aegon’s Management Board with meaningful information to support the board’s decision-making process and deliver legally required reporting.

Being in control over our (financial) reporting is a key requirement for achieving Aegon’s strategy. Aegon wants to ensure high quality reporting and part of that is ensuring effective controls are in place across all our key processes.

Purpose of the role:

The Internal Control Specialist will support the process/control owners at Aegon’s Corporate Financial Center (CFC) in maintaining effective (business and IT) controls. This includes planning the internal control cycle, testing of effectiveness of controls, and provide ad hoc advise on control related matters. The internal control team has an important role in aligning with our external auditor, who relies on the team's testing work. Furthermore, the team assesses auditor independence related measures and determines the materiality levels.

FR&O is further implementing sustainability reporting following new regulations including CSRD and EU Taxonomy. This requires new data feeds, new solutions, enhanced processes and controls. You will assist in this transition by engaging with process and control owners and advising them on the design of their controls and establishing a regular internal control reporting cycle.

What we are looking for:

  • Financial background from an academic & professional perspective. University degree in Accounting, IT /operational audit, Business Administration, Economics, or other relevant discipline
  • A chartered operational/ internal auditor (or equivalent), or Accountant would be desirable
  • At least 5 - 7 years of relevant experience in risk, (IT) control or auditing
  • Experience in an international, SOx-regulated environment is a plus
  • Experience with translation and implementation of regulations into relevant controls and data quality requirements is a plus
  • Structured and methodical approach to work
  • Fluent in English, verbal and written.
