Aegon's UK business, Aegon UK, recently signed the Finance for Biodiversity Pledge, a global initiative which brings together 163 financial institutions that jointly represent EUR 21.7 trillion of assets. Signatories must assess, set and disclose targets regarding their contributions to reversing nature loss through their investments and actions as a financial institution.
Aegon UK’s decision to sign the Pledge aligns with a growing trend among investors of prioritizing environmental considerations. Research conducted by Aegon UK in 2023 highlighted that over half of Aegon UK’s customers believe impacts on nature, including biodiversity, are an important consideration to take into account when investing in a company.
Hilkka Komulainen, Head of Responsible Investing at Aegon UK, said: “By understanding and taking ownership of the impact of our pension schemes, we are committed to being a force for good and to use our influence to help protect the planet, on behalf of our customers.”
This follows steps taken by Aegon Asset Management which earlier in the year joined the Nature Action 100, a global investor engagement initiative focused on driving greater corporate ambition and action to reverse the loss of nature and biodiversity.
