Head of Strategy and Value Creation – Aegon Group
Aegon Group is seeking a highly experienced and strategic leader to join our team as the Head of Strategy and Value Creation. This pivotal role supports the Group strategic positioning and its value creation journey as a global, leading player in the retirement, life and pension space . It will be responsible for driving the strategic direction of the company, ensuring each of the Group’s business perform at the maximum of their potential and in alignment with our long-term goals, and identifying new opportunities for growth and value creation. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the financial markets and financial services industry, a proven track record in strategic planning, execution and alignment of multiple stakeholders and the ability to think laterally to uncover and convert new pockets of value, in particular in the current and unique intersection of data, technology and customer needs.
The Head of Strategy and Value Creation reports directly to Michele Bareggi - Chief Strategy, Transformation & Growth Officer.
Responsibilities and Deliverables:
- Run an on-going assessment of the overall potential of the industry, identifying areas of growth and trends in markets and geographies.
- Advise management on where to set the Firm’s long-term strategy based on the market understanding and valuation of the different components of our businesses, as well as our overall proposition.
- Engage internal stakeholders to ensure overall understanding of and alignment to the Group strategy.
- Perform an on-going assessment of Aegon’s businesses, to ensure they create the maximum value based on a solid understanding of each BU’s strategic positioning within a market, their functioning and set-up.
- Form a substantiated confidence on future delivery of agreed business targets, reasons for effective or potential under-delivery and paths to address it in order to enhance the quality, stability and predictability of value creation.
- Drive value creation by uncovering and converting new pockets of value within each of the businesses and more broadly within the financial services sector.
- Contribute to a view on what the current intersection of data / technology / customer needs mean for Aegon and its business and how to strengthen connections with customers
- Identifying key value levers supporting insurance, banking, or financial services businesses and assessing how specific businesses utilize these levers, identifying gaps, and potential areas for incremental value creation.
- Lead and mentor a team of strategic professionals (3-4 fte), fostering a culture of innovation, creativity, and strategic thinking.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Likely you will have 15 years+ of experience in financial services (investment banking, corporate finance, strategy consulting and/or private equity).
- Deep understanding of capital markets, insurance, equity and but have a broad mindset in the financial sector with the ability to think laterally beyond insurance and drive innovative solutions.
- Direct experience in driving value and managing functions in financial services corporates, either as an investor or from a leadership position.
- Proven track record in strategic planning and execution, with the ability to think and implement projects “end-to-end.”
- Good understanding of retail banking, distribution, and possibly wealth-tech investing.
- You have strong discipline in assessing value creation and the ability to uncover and convert new pockets of value. You combine this with high EQ and the ability to manage and create relationships with multiple stakeholders, particularly business units and operating companies.
- You have a creative and innovative mindset with a deep, strategic understanding of technology (including AI) and data science and their applications to customer engagement and financial services.
- Proven interest and proficiency in data science/technology and their application to creating and maintaining customer attention and engagement.
- You are driven, have a high degree of persistence, curious, and well developed influencing skills.
- Ability to engage different stakeholders.
- Good sense of humor.

- Compensation levels depend upon an applicant’s qualifications and will be determined by hiring supervisors/managers and HR.
- You will receive a thirteenth month and a holiday allowance in the form of a monthly flex budget, amounting to 16.7% of your monthly salary.
