With a score of 82 in the 2016 Dow Jones Sustainability Index, Aegon has again proved itself to be a sustainability leader in its sector, remaining in the top 10 percent of the financial services industry.
[node:field_featured_media:entity:field_media_image]Aegon's score fell by 1 point to 82 in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), compared to an industry average of 50.
Aegon scored particularly well on its commitments to the Principles for Sustainable Insurance and on Risk Management and Tax policies and practices. Aegon's new Global Tax Policy and Principles of Conduct contributed to an increase of 14 percentage points in the Tax Strategy category.
Historical DJSI Performance
According to Marc van Weede, Head of Group Strategy & Sustainability, "this result confirms that we're still among the top performers on sustainability. We've made a commitment to our stakeholders, and have been delivering on this. However, we also see that standards with regard to sustainability continue to increase. To maintain our position in the DJSI Index we will have to improve over the next years in order to maintain our position."
About the Index
With this performance Aegon maintains its inclusion in both the Dow Jones Sustainability European and World index. The Dow Jones Sustainability Europe Index tracks the performance of the leading 20% of large European companies in terms of sustainability, while the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index tracks the performance of the leading 10% of large companies worldwide
In compiling the indices, the DJSI measures the non-financial performance of thousands of companies on a wide range of categories, including governance, remuneration, (operational) risk management, compliance, procurement, human rights, environmental footprint, and transparent reporting.
